Week 1 — The Light of Genesis: God’s First Revelation
Explore creation, purpose, and divine order.
Scripture Passage
Genesis 1:1–5
1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
-Genesis 1:1-5
Reflection Question
“Where do I need God’s light to shine in the ‘beginning’ places of my life right now?”
Group Reflection and Discussion
In Genesis 1, God brings light, order, and purpose out of emptiness and darkness. Share an experience when God brought clarity, direction, or renewal into a situation that felt empty or chaotic. What did that transformation teach you about God’s character?
APPLICATION STEPS — WEEK 1 (Genesis 1:1–5 KJV)
1. Invite God’s Light Into One Specific Area
Identify one area of your life that feels “without form and void,” and pray daily:
“Lord, let there be light.”
Ask God to shine clarity, wisdom, and peace into that place.
2. Meditate on Genesis 1:1–5 Each Morning
Read the passage slowly.
Reflect on each phrase—especially “And God said…” and “it was good.”
Let the Scripture set the tone for your day.
3. Journal the “Light Moments”
Each day, write one sentence about where you sensed God bringing:
1. Understanding: God reveals Himself as Creator
2. Order: God brings form to what was formless
3. Peace: God’s presence hovers calmly over chaos
4. Purity: God’s light shines as something good and uncontaminated
It can be small—a thought, a conversation, or a change in attitude.
4. Remove One Source of “Darkness” This Week
Choose something that brings confusion, discouragement, or distraction—
and intentionally step back from it.
Replace it with Scripture, prayer, or worship.
5. Speak Light Over Your Home
Declare God’s Word out loud in your space.
Even walking room‑to‑room and reading Genesis 1:3 (“Let there be light”) is powerful.
6. Share Your Journey With One Person
Tell someone what God is illuminating in your life.
This builds community and strengthens faith.
Closing Thoughts – Week 1: “Let There Be Light”
As we conclude this first week of study, let your heart rest in the truth that the same God who spoke light into the darkness of creation is still speaking light into the depths of your life today. Nothing is too formless, too empty, or too shadowed for His presence to transform. His Spirit is still “moving upon the face of the waters,” hovering over every area that needs clarity, healing, or renewal.
Where God’s light appears, chaos yields to order. Confusion gives way to purpose. Darkness bows to divine revelation. Allow this week’s meditation to remind you that God begins His work with illumination, lighting the path before He shapes the steps.
May you walk forward strengthened, encouraged, and awakened to the truth that His light is not only around you, but within you. Carry it boldly into your home, your relationships, and your daily walk. The journey has just begun, and His light is guiding every step.
